Editorial Policy



   I. Journal Information
 
Liberabit is a publication of the Professional School of Psychology of the Universidad de San Martín de Porres (Lima, Peru). It started its activities in 1995 with an annual periodicity, since 2008 it has been published every six months (January-June; July-December) and currently it is a continuous publication.
 
It is an open access journal. Publishes original articles of empirical, theoretical, and applied research in the different areas of psychology. The call is permanent respecting the established editorial characteristics, especially the double-blind peer review. The journal publishes articles in English and Spanish. Interested parties can review the "Guidelines for Authors" and submit their manuscripts through the OJS platform.

  II. General Rules
 
1. Open access policy
 
Liberabit adheres to the Budapest Open Access Initiative published in 2002, which allows any user to access, read, download, share, print, save or use the works published in it without financial, legal, or technical barriers that are inseparable from access to the Internet itself.
 
It is published under the Creative Commons Atribución 4.0 license (CC BY 4.0), provided that the name of the authors and Liberabit are recognized, without making commercial use of the articles and by acknowledging the corresponding credits.
 
Liberabit supports and adheres to the Declaration on the Evaluation of Research (DORA) and gives emphasis to published research.  
 
2. Copyright
In the event that the manuscript is accepted for the upcoming publication, the authors retain the copyright and assign to the journal the publishing, editing, reproduction, distribution, exhibition, and communication rights at the national and international levels in the different databases, repositories, and portals.  
 
3. Self-archiving policy
Authors can share, disseminate, and spread through the media (e.g., academic social networks, repositories, and portals) available on the web their published research. During the editorial review process, the journal will provide the author with the previous versions (post-print) which should NOT be disclosed by any means of dissemination. Said versions are only for personal use and final approval purposes. Liberabit will send the author the final version of the article (published version) in PDF and HTML formats to be shared, disseminated, and spread by the media available on the web. After the publication of the articles, authors can make other types of independent or additional agreements for the non-exclusive dissemination of the version of the article published in this journal (publication in institutional books or repositories), provided it is explicitly indicated, with the respective reference, that the work has been published for the first time in this journal.
 
4. Evaluation
Manuscripts are only received through the OJS (Open Journal System) being evaluated initially by the editorial committee as the first filter within formal processes. If the proposals do not meet the criteria required by the journal (editorial policy), the editorial process may not be conducted, and said proposals will be returned to the corresponding author. If requirements are met, the manuscript will be subject to the evaluation process.
 
The journal will send a first editorial response on the status of the manuscript submitted for publication within a period not less than 2  weeks. Once the correction of the first observations raised has been verified, the manuscript will then be subject to peer evaluation.
 
4.1. Peer evaluation
 
Liberabit uses a double-blind peer review system (reviewer is unaware of the identity of the author, and the author is also unaware of the identity of reviewer) in which once the evaluation of the manuscript has been completed, the corresponding author will receive a notification of the peer's opinion, who literally indicate their observations, comments and/or suggestions.
 
Once changes made by the author are received, the manuscript will be again evaluated by the peers who will submit a final opinion. Then, the document is verified by a copy editor. Once the edition is concluded, the article (print proof) is sent to the author for verification and acceptance within an indicated time frame, who should specify if there are any changes. The author is responsible for the claims and modifications of the submitted article. Acceptance of the article does not imply its immediate publication; the journal reserves the right on the publication dates.  
 
4.2 Article withdrawal
 
For article withdrawal from the editorial process, corresponding authors should formally inform the reasons for the withdrawal of the manuscript and wait for the editor's response in order to continue with the sending of the proposal to another journal.  
 
5. Mandatory documentation
 
Authors should attach the complete manuscript (including tables or figures in a single sending and within the same file). In addition, they should send  Card 01 (Ethics)  and Card 02 (Authors’ personal data) to start the evaluation process.
 
6. Digital preservation
 
The journal uses the Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (LOCKSS) system to create a file system distributed among collaborating libraries, which are allowed to create permanent files of the journal for conservation and restoration purposes.
 
7. Frequency of publication
 
Liberabit is a continuous publication and publishes two biannual issues a year: from January to June and from July to December.
 
8. Payment for article publication
 
Liberabit: Revista Peruana de Psicología does NOT apply article processing charges (APC), which include reception, initial review, peer review, editing, layout, publication, DOI assignment, and marking of articles on any of the accepted formats (original articles, brief original articles, theoretical articles and letters to the editor).
 
9. Rejection index
 
Liberabit’s rejection rate is more 70%  articles per issue:

The journal does not share the opinions expressed by the authors.
 
11. Privacy statement
 
Liberabit will preserve the names and data included in the OJS registry. They will be used exclusively for the purposes indicated by the journal, and will not be available to any media or people outside the journal.

III. Ethical Responsibilities

1. Policy on plagiarism detection

Liberabit: Revista Peruana de Psicología safeguards compliance with national and international ethical standards in the publication process. Therefore, it follows international standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and uses Turnitin software to ensure transparency in information.

The procedures to be followed, in case plagiarism is detected, are based on the following information provided by the COPE and the American Psychological Association (APA):

• Guidelines on Good Publication Practice

• Ethical Principies of Psychologists and code of conduct

• British Psychology Society Code of Ethics

 

2. Policies on sanctions for misconduct

Misconducts include data falsification, data manipulation to obtain desired results, indiscriminate use of self-citations and unjustified authorship. In the event that any of these misconducts are found in a manuscript, the editorial committee will assess the case and issue a sanction according to the type of inappropriate conduct.

Minor faults

Minor faults correspond to misconduct that does not require a thorough investigation, and in which all parties involved have the right to reply, for example, unjustified inclusion of authors, abuse of self-citations, among others considered by the committee.

Serious faults

This type of fault requires a thorough investigation that involves superiors and employers of the objectively accused person for notification. If there is evidence, the journal may involve external experts (limited number of people according to the editorial committee’s decision) for final opinion and sanction (alteration of results, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, double submission of works, among others considered by the committee). The author has the right to appeal to this opinion.

Consequences

The journal renders a decision on the type of sanction according to the severity of the fault:

a) In the case of minor faults, the journal will send a notification on the misconduct to the parties involved so that in the future they avoid this type of behavior.

b) In the case of serious faults, the journal may send a formal letter to the employment entity, financing entity, or the superior of the parties involved, and will refer the case in question to them. According to the severity of this fault, the journal may publish an editorial on unethical behaviors, including the names of the people involved (the particular case), or remove indefinitely the publications of the parties involved.

3. Conflicts of interests

The authors should indicate in detail in the manuscript if there is any conflict of interest to be considered for evaluation (conflicts of interest may be related to moral, economic, labor, and research issues). (Attach Card 01)

4. Ethical responsibility

Liberabit adheres to the Declaration of Helsinki on the protection of basic principles. Authors should attach a letter specifying that the study has been approved by an ethics committee, which should be explicitly stated in the manuscript. If they do not have this letter, they should explain why it has not been requested.

The authors should indicate in the Method section that all procedures for collecting data conducted with the participants (tests, interviews, recordings, videos, etc.) have been carried out after obtaining the pertinent informed consent. In the event that the participants are children or adolescents, the informed consent of parents and/or proxies and approval is required. (Card 02 )

It is the responsibility of the authors to provide interested readers with copies of the raw data, procedure manuals, scores, and, in general, relevant experimental material.

Ethical responsibilities in the editorial process:

• Editor(s): They should monitor the publishing processes according to international ethical standards, as well as ensure that manuscripts are reviewed according to the publication standards.

• Author(s): They submit results of transparent research processes with rigorous scientific and ethical standards, and take responsibility for the contents of the research to be published. During the editorial process, manuscripts should not be sent to another journal. Likewise, they should indicate the funding source and declare the conflicts of interest (if any).

• Reviewer(s): They use evaluation systems objectively, rigorously, and in a timely manner. Their observations should be relevant and well-grounded.  

5.- Complaints and appeals

Liberabit makes available to all authors, reviewers and the general public that have the email liberabit@usmp.pe so that they can make their queries, comments, complaints and / or observations.

In turn, the editorial committee of the journal may make appeals that are related to the breach of any of the rules of publication, plagiarism, evaluation reports, conduct of the members of the editorial team, rules of the authors, among others where the authors, reviewers and the editorial team are immersed. For any type of appeal, a letter should be sent to the editor at mfernandeza1@usmp.pe indicating in detail what happened. The letter will be thoroughly reviewed by the editor and a response will be given as soon as possible via e-mail.

6.- Author contributions

Authors should indicate in the manuscript their substantial contributions (e.g., design of manuscript preparation, database, statistical analysis, final revision of the manuscript, etc.). To determine and identify the coherence in authorship and to avoid faults such as unjustified authorship (Card 02 ).

7.- Open data

The authors can release their database for the purposes of transparency and reproducibility of the data available in the OJS of the journal.

8.- Supervision

Only works that include the Card 01 (Ethics)  and Card 02 (Authors’ personal data), should expressly indicate it in the manuscript (ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITY section) to start the evaluation process will be considered.
